Lyon hung by Clermont after a crazy match

A scenario in France-Switzerland of the last football Euro. This is what the Lyon supporters experienced, Sunday, August 22, at Groupama Stadium, during the Ligue 1 match between Olympique Lyonnais (OL) and the promoted Clermont.

While OL led by two goals ten minutes from the end of the match, the Rhone club let the victory slip away and allowed the Auvergnats to come back in the last seconds (3-3).

Elba Rashani’s goal in extra time from a corner (90 + 1e) thus deprives Peter Bosz of a first success on the bench of Lyon.

However, throughout the week, the Dutch coach of OL had criticized his players, encouraging them to show a better state of mind after a disappointing draw against Brest (1-1) on 7 August, and a heavy defeat in Angers (0-3), on August 15.

Paqueta’s bang before the crash

The point is, his players have heard it. In any case during the first hour of play, during which the Lyonnais put intensity, pressed high and played forward.

Follower of the beautiful game, Bosz was able to admire, like the supporters, the third Lyon goal scored by Lucas Paqueta at the end of a sublime collective action (45 + 1e).

Before that, Moussa Dembélé delighted in finding the net twice after having been silent since November 2020 (5e, 21e).

Yes, but here it is, OL will only have played for an hour. Already wait-and-see on the equalization of the Clermont score following a corner (12e), the Lyonnais then let the Auvergnats take the game on their own.

And the promoted one knows how to do it in the matter. This is how Rashani gave hope to Clermont (81e) ten minutes from the end of the match, before offering, with a nice angry head, the point of the draw, thus allowing the Auvergnats to total 7 points, out of 9 possible, since the start of the season.

After three days of the championship, OL have still not won a single match. The exit of the Rhone from the pitch at the end of the match was accompanied by the whistles of the supporters present at Groupama Stadium.

The Lyonnais had yet had the opportunity to create the gap at the end of the match by Moussa Dembélé (75e), Tino Kadewere (79e) and Houssem Aouar (89e).

But in Lyon, everything is not right at the start of the season. Peter Bosz and his players will try to reverse the trend on Friday August 27 in Nantes.
