Lyon: stickers with the effigy of Klaus Barbie pasted in front of the center of resistance

Stickers bearing the coat of arms of the city of Lyon and the image of Klaus Barbie, head of the Gestapo between 1943 and 1944 and nicknamed the butcher of Lyon, were pasted in the middle of the week opposite the Center for the History of the Resistance and of the Deportation located in the 7e district of Lyon.

The prefect of the Rhône department, Pascal Mailhos, very quickly “strongly condemned the inadmissible use of these symbols of hatred and anti-Semitism.The representative of the State in the department also seized the public prosecutor. “The state is resolutely committed to the fight against hateful and violent far-right radical groups.added Pascal Mailhos.

Mohamed Chihi, deputy mayor of Lyon in charge of security, assured that he had sent “a team on site to remove all registrations” and also havereport the facts to the prosecutor”. “Lyon, capital of resistance, will always stand up against all ideologies that carry hatred”, he added.

Contacted, the Lyon prosecutor’s office confirmed that an investigation into these facts has been opened.
