M5, AMG, RS6, Porsche – violent limousines: They really are that strong!

The top engines from premium manufacturers offer plenty of power and torque. The data sheets for the Audi RS 6 Avant, BMW M5 Competition, Mercedes-AMG E 63 S and Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid state between 600 and 700 hp. How strong the cars actually are has now been measured on a test stand. Spoilers: Three of the four are stronger than stated.

The four limousines combine many highly valued qualities: luxury, power, sportiness, prestige. Others tend not to, modesty for example. A look at the list prices makes it clear that quite a lot of coal has to flow in order not to let too little fuel flow through the lines: Audi RS 6 Avant: 167,000 euros BMW M5 Competition: 172,000 euros Mercedes-AMG E 63 S: 164,000 euros Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid: 202,000 euros So be it. Mat Watson from the car portal CarWow wanted to know more about the power and put one example on the dynamometer and one on the scales. The result is of course not representative for the respective series. When it comes to the drive, it is quite normal for a series to vary in terms of power and torque. And the weight mainly depends on the equipment. Nevertheless, the result is absolutely impressive. Significant deviation from the factory data Except for the Audi, all candidates deviated seriously from the factory data in terms of performance. The RS6 Avant missed the advertised 600 hp by a single horsepower. The Porsche shoots off the bird: Instead of 700 hp, the test bench spits out a value of 750 hp – 50 hp more! The BMW has 652 instead of 625, the Mercedes has 636 instead of 612 hp. The difference in torque is clearer. The Audi also hits here, namely 18 Nm. But the BMW M5 is a high-flyer when it comes to torque plus, which puts a mighty 863 Nm on the crankshaft – only 750 Nm are promised. Makes an extra of 113 Nm! The Mercedes gives 86 Nm more and comes to 935 Nm. It even beats the Porsche, which nominally offers the highest maximum torque in this comparison. But the Zuffenhauser “only” hits 54 Nm and actually comes to 924 Nm. BMW surprises with the weight Mat Watson does not give any precise information about the equipment of the candidates, so the differences between real and homologation weight are difficult to assess. And some of them are huge. The Audi weighs 142 kg more than the registration document states. The Porsche and Mercedes are each 76 kg heavier than specified: the Zuffenhäuser is the heaviest in the round at 2426 kg because of its hybrid drive, the Mercedes weighs 2086 kg. The BMW M5 offers amazing things: it even undercuts the factory specification by 21 kg! As a result, it also has the best power-to-weight ratio in this comparison: BMW: 340 hp per ton or 2.94 kg per hp Porsche: 309 hp per ton or 323 kg per hp Mercedes: 305 hp per ton or 3.28 kg per hp Audi : 289 hp per ton or 3.70 kg per hpIf we compare performance and price, the Mercedes is the cheapest choice (258 euros per hp) ahead of BMW (264 euros), Porsche (269 euros) and Audi ( 279 euros).
