December 23 (Reuters) – Emmanuel Macron and Mario Draghi plead in a joint op-ed published by the Financial Times for a future reform of the European Union’s budgetary rules to provide more leeway for the investments necessary for European sovereignty.
The French President and the President of the Italian Council also advocate “reasonable structural reforms” paving the way for a reduction in recurrent public spending, adding that the Commission has recently made “interesting” proposals.
