Macron announces the dissolution of the National Assembly

PARIS (Reuters) – President Emmanuel Macron announced on Sunday the dissolution of the National Assembly and the holding of new legislative elections to take into account the result of the European vote which saw the National Rally (RN) clearly win.

“I am therefore dissolving the National Assembly this evening, I will sign in a few moments the decree convening the legislative elections which will be held on June 30 for the first round and July 7 for the second round,” he announced during of a televised speech.

“It is a time for essential clarification (…) I have heard your message, your concerns and I will not leave them unanswered,” he added.
