The Head of State, who declared his love of wine to journalists at the 2018 Agricultural Show, was named personality of the year 2022 by the Revue du vin de France. Emmanuel Macron will travel to receive his prize this Thursday.

President Emmanuel Macron was named “personality of the year 2022” by the Revue du vin de France, for “his constant commitment to wine and its culture,” AFP learned from the specialist magazine on Tuesday.

“I drink wine for lunch and dinner”

The head of state plans to go to the award ceremony on Thursday, according to his schedule. “We wish to salute the action of the President of the Republic at a time when his mandate is coming to an end,” explained Denis Saverot, editorial director of the RVF, stressing that, “for the first time in decades, a president of the Republic declared loud and clear that he loved wine “. In February 2018, shortly before the Salon de l’Agriculture, Emmanuel Macron told journalists: “I drink wine for lunch and dinner”.

“There is a scourge of public health when young people get drunk at high speed with strong alcohols or beer, but it is not with wine”, assured Emmanuel Macron. “As long as I am president, there will be no amendment to toughen the Evin law,” he had promised. This 1991 law regulates advertising for alcoholic beverages in particular.

“We are not rewarding a possible presidential candidate”

The RVF “does not play politics,” said Denis Saverot. “We are not rewarding a possible candidate for the presidential election but the Head of State for his concrete actions for wine and its culture,” he said. The ceremony will take place under the health rules imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic and there will therefore be no cocktail, said RVF.
