Macron’s assessment: a “failing” president on authority and security, says Jean-François Copé

A few weeks before the first round of the presidential election, the candidate of the Les Républicains party, Valérie Pécresse, is looking for a face-to-face meeting with the outgoing president. A dialogue which could make it possible to say to the Head of State: “Mr. Macron, nothing is always negative in a balance sheet but you have been failing” on a major subject “authority”, launched Jean-François Copé, mayor of Meaux, on Europe 1.

Actions to take

“Look at the state of our migration policy,” he continued Friday in Europe Matin. “I see it in the extremely low level of deportations of illegal migrants. We are around 15,000-16,000 in a context where the stakes of irregular immigration are major”, he exclaims.

For the mayor of Meaux, immigration measures should have been taken years ago “to ensure that France is not the most socially attractive country for those who today are the object of clandestine mafia networks” .

Emmanuel Macron would also have been “failing” on the subject of security. “The national police is under-equipped and works in appalling conditions and nothing is done to encourage the development of armed municipal police, when we know that this is the keystone of a new security policy”, he said on Europe 1.

Armed municipal police?

A security policy practiced by Jean-François Copé in his municipality and that Valérie Pécresse advocates in her campaign program even if this decision is now up to the mayors. This decision “can return to the law” continued the mayor of Meaux. “If we decide that all cities with more than 5 or 10,000 inhabitants will have armed municipal police, that it will be compulsory, co-financed by the State, with video surveillance cameras, the results will be remarkable!” he shouted.
