After the gossip about her face, Madonna took to Instagram to complain about ageism and misogyny in society.

Since her Grammy performance on Monday, the world has once again been discussing Madonna’s (64) appearance. Some pictures of the Queen of Pop and her very smooth face had caused malicious articles and comments online in the past few days.

On Instagram Madonna has now personally commented on a video with recordings of the evening. “Rather than focus on what I said in my speech, which was to appreciate Sam and Kim’s fearlessness, a lot of people have chosen to just talk about the close-ups of me.” The press photographer’s long lens would distort any face, the Queen of Pop explains.

“A world that refuses to celebrate women over 45”

Once again, she was caught in the gaze of age discrimination and misogyny, Madonna continued. And speaks of a world “that refuses to celebrate women over 45 and feels the need to punish them if they continue to be strong-willed, hard-working and adventurous.”

Apparently this is nothing new for Madonna in her long career. The pop star reports that she has been belittled by the media since the beginning of her career. “I’ve never apologized for the creative choices I’ve made, not the way I look or dress, and I won’t start either.” She sees it as a test “and I look forward to paving the way to make it easier for all the women behind me in the years to come.”

In conclusion, Madonna announced that she looks forward to many more years of subversive behavior, crossing boundaries, standing up against patriarchy – “and above all enjoying my life.”

Headwind in the comments

Over 360,000 people hearted the video with the combative announcement after just a few hours. In the comments, however, the feminist aspect of her speech is not only well received. Some users point out to Madonna that she is the one who doesn’t want to accept that women are getting older.
