Presented for the first time in August 2023, the Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin game is already shaping up to be one of the best in the franchise. And it’s the creator of the eponymous comic who says it!
Kevin Eastman, one of the brilliant minds behind the Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin comic, actually got to see the game in action. He apparently was full of praise for the project developed by Black Forest Games and published by THQ Nordic. However, ordinary people will have to demonstrate the patience of a ninja before being able to play it.
A mature and very promising Ninja Turtles game
Ninja Turtles games tend to blow hot and cold. Some rose to the status of cult classics, while others were passable at best. The video game adaptation of the very popular comic book The Last Ronin could clearly boast of entering the first category. An early version seen by Kevin Eastman, creator of the comic, convinced her in this sense in any case.
The man described Black Forest Games’ work as “So beautiful. So fantastic.” As a reminder, The Last Ronin is a comic book in five volumes. Of the original Ninja Turtles, only one remains. The others were murdered by Shredder’s grandson, Oroku Hiroto. The proverbial Last Ronin intends to avenge them by using the weapons of his late brothers against his enemies. A particularly mature Ninja Turtles work, as were the first sketches of our favorite anthropomorphic heroes.
The Last Ronin bides his time in the shadows
Kevin Eastman is probably one of the few to have seen this video game adaptation of his comic book in action. Aside from the trailer above, the rest of the world unfortunately hasn’t seen more. The title is still in development, but does not appear to be released any time soon. We could hope for a release in 2024 on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, but the reality seems quite different.
You are indeed aware that THQ Nordic publishes this very promising Ninja Turtles game. The company is, however, owned by a certain Embracer Group. Due to a lack of money from a certain Saudi investment fund, the group has violently cut its workforce to make maximum savings. In its feverish slaughter, the Black Forest Games studio working on The Last Ronin lost half of its employees. So things are looking rather gloomy for this project for the moment. A release in 2024 seems in any case excluded, but we hope that such a thing in 2025 remains feasible. Could it be otherwise for this already very dark adaptation of the famous Ninja Turtles?
