Magnus Pro Secret Lab, the best sit-stand desk? Our test!

SecretLab, the most avid players must certainly know at least the name. It is a brand recognized in the design of articles specialized in gaming and often customizable. Chair, desk in mind, the brand is renowned for its quality material, and above all very trendy.

Collaborations with famous video games are legion, DOOM, Cyberpunk 2077, League of Legends or The Witcher among many others. There are also some licenses from pop culture like Batman, for example. For the release of Secretlab’s Magnus Pro sit-stand desk, I had the opportunity to try out a copy of this big baby for several days, dressed in the colors of Cyberpunk 2077, which recently received its narrative DLC, Phantom Liberty. A premium desk, in its XL version for more space, and especially suitable for large people. So, what is this behemoth worth?

The Magnus Pro XL seriously impresses

When the package arrives, we know straight away what awaits us. The Magnus Pro XL is a very large desk, its little brother already offers a very nice space with a length of 150 cm and 70 cm wide. The XL version, for its part, is 170 cm long and 80 cm wide. Yes, it’s crazy. Larger people will be delighted to learn that they can easily spread out while playing or working. On it, you can easily place 2 screens of 27” or 32”, and even your PC tower while maintaining a large space to accommodate your keyboard, your mouse pad and everything you want. There is room and as a bonus, the beast is capable of carrying and lifting no less than 120 kg. Because yes, as a reminder, this behemoth is a sit-stand desk, which greatly differentiates it from the standard Magnus.

A sturdy desk, easy to assemble

And to carry such a load, the Magnus Pro XL has an ultra-strong steel frame. The two T-shaped legs (compared to four straight legs on the standard Magnus) are wide and the whole thing is extremely stable. As a bonus, the frame is relatively discreet and gives the office a very clean and above all very pretty design. Nothing special to note either in terms of finishes such as the welds for example, of high quality. Secretlab doesn’t really surprise, the quality is there right down to the ease of assembly. The packages are very massive and the equipment weighs its weight (around 50 kg), 32 kg just for the office table. The latter is particularly robust and thick.

Surprisingly, despite its size, the desk sets up quite quickly. The box includes ultra-clear instructions and all the tools necessary to assemble the machine. Still allow room to maneuver. Alone, the assembly is folded in less than an hour, with two people, half an hour is enough, paying close attention to the parts. A few bolts, a couple of things to fit together and then it’s gone. Fast, clear and efficient. In case of a problem, Secretlab offers a whole lot of help on its official website for assembly.

Everything is perfectly tidy, here the feet for example.

The Magnus Pro, a very comfortable sit-stand

Once assembled, the desk is impressive. The legs are wide, the table is spacious… at its lowest, the Magnus Pro is placed 65 cm from the ground, at its highest, at 1.25 m. It therefore adapts perfectly to all sizes and preferences. On the front of the desk, in the right corner, there is a small control panel integrated into the edge, to further optimize the space under the desk for seats, for example. This control panel is made up of a few buttons to adjust the height flexibly and even save up to 3 profiles by pre-recording the height. All you have to do is press the button for the desk to take its position like a big one. Note that the Magnus Pro XL has an anti-collision sensor that will prevent it from continuing to force in the event of contact with a foreign object during the movement of its table, thus preventing accidents. Easy to assemble, spacious and very accessible, the Magnus Pro is a particularly ergonomic desk and extremely comfortable to use.

Perfect cable management, even without accessories

Not content with just sitting, the Magnus Pro is also a desk that aims for zero visible cables. On its rear side, it has a gutter hidden by a covering which folds over in which you can place all of your cables. It’s the desktop itself that powers your hardware. A cable is in fact hidden in one of the two feet and must be plugged into a standard socket. Inside the gutter, you can then put a simple power strip for your screens for example, and bring out the cables discreetly on your work table. Even without accessorizing it, the Magnus Pro already offers solid advantages for cable management, well above the competition.

The rear panel lifts up and reveals a gutter to hide the cables.

Total customization optional…

The desk is therefore particularly spacious, beautiful and very functional, but it is also ultra-customizable thanks to a very wide range of accessories that can be purchased directly on the Secretlab website. There are magnetic cable covers to further facilitate cable management, or even magnetic mats to place on the desk, the famous Magpad). These cover the entire space, offer additional comfort, facilitate cleaning thanks to quality materials but are also aesthetically pleasing and customizable.

Batman, Doom, League of Legends or Cyberpunk 2077, the examples are numerous. There are a whole bunch of accessories in the colors of your favorite licenses. Those of Cyberpunk 2077 which were entrusted to us for this test are particularly well finished. The magpad is thick and the imitation leather is particularly soft to the touch and excellently made. Anthracite with some smoke effects on the main space, a map of Night City on the right and the game’s signature in the left corner, it looks very nice.

…but premium has a price, and it’s steep

Overall, it’s difficult to fault this Secretlab Magnus Pro XL desk and its accessories. But quality has a price, and the price can quickly skyrocket depending on what you plan to equip. We are talking here about a bill which still starts at €849 for the standard desk without accessories, and €999 for its XL version. It’s a sum. The accessories have more or less variable prices. Allow around a hundred euros for exclusive mats, and around fifty for magnetic cable covers for example. We are well above the average price. Secretlab makes it premium, but does it well. However, be careful of the bill which can quickly add up.
