Is it hardware or software? This little sentence, you will often hear it in the corridors of an editorial office such as Frandroid, as we try to disentangle what falls under the real capacities of a device and its possible improvements in the future. According to 9to5Googlefor the iPhone MagSafe battery, it was software, since an update has just slightly increased its charging power.

The latest version of firmware of the battery, the 2.7, reveals that the device still had some underfoot. More precisely, it would go from 5 W to 7.5 W of charge, a substantial improvement, but which should not upset the use of the device either.

How to benefit

There are two ways to update the magnet battery. The first one requires almost a week to complete, so it is not advisable. It is simply “to tie» the battery to the iPhone and the transfer will start automatically.

The other method, much faster (allow 5 minutes), requires a Mac or an iPad (yes, just that). You just need to connect the battery to one of these two devices via a Lightning cable.

As a reminder, the MagSafe battery was released in July 2021. It is compatible with the iPhone 12 and 13 and has a capacity equivalent to 2920 mAh.
