Anyone who owns a ZEMO e-bike should stop using it for the time being and instead read this text first. Because the manufacturer is now recalling thousands of bikes. The reason for this is the risk of cracks forming in the frame.
This affects all models in the Wave and Deep series with low entry that were built between 2014 and 2019. ZEMO maintains a list of affected models on its website, but points out that the recall also applies to Wave and Deep models from the years mentioned, whose model numbers are not yet listed.
Manufacturer reimburses residual value
According to ZEMO, you should stop using the affected bikes immediately and contact your specialist dealer. However, the contact was apparently disappointing for several of those affected. Because, as the Lower Saxony Consumer Center reports, ZEMO only reimburses customers for the remaining value of the bike. “If the purchase was two to three years ago, this is 40 percent of the purchase price according to the manufacturer’s table, and for a six-year-old bike it is ten percent of the purchase price,” write the consumer advocates.
This is not legally objectionable. However, those affected should check whether they may have further claims under the manufacturer’s warranty on the frame. You can of course continue to use a bike despite the recall. However, consumer advocates advise against this because if the error causes an accident, you cannot claim compensation from the manufacturer. In addition, such a recall only takes place if there are significant safety concerns.
