Major search operation – missing ski tourer was rescued

On Saturday afternoon there was a search for a missing ski tourer at the Zwölferköpfel in Wald am Schoberpass (Leoben district). She was found unharmed.

A 46-year-old from the Leibnitz district was on a ski tour on the Zwölferköpfel with her two companions. The 46-year-old couldn’t keep up with her companions, so they continued the tour towards the summit alone. After her companions returned, the 46-year-old could not be found at the starting point. A search in the immediate area was unsuccessful. A former innkeeper was also informed by the companions. He called the mountain emergency number 140 at 3 p.m. and the Styria State Warning Center launched a search operation. Police officers from the Alpine Task Force Hochsteiermark were able to reach the sister of the missing person. She in turn determined the whereabouts of the 46-year-old more closely using her cell phone. Location successful At 6:20 p.m., the missing person was finally found near the location point, hypothermic but uninjured. She was brought back to the starting point of the tour in a special vehicle. The Mautern, Leoben, Trofaiach and Vordernberg mountain rescue teams were deployed with 34 personnel and a dog squad, the Wald am Schoberpaß, Mautern and Hafning volunteer fire departments with eight personnel and the Hochsteiermark Alpine Police with three police officers involved.
