Commercial children's make-up is often provided with dangerous ingredients. Here you can find out how you can make children's make-up yourself with just a few ingredients in a quick DIY!

Whether carnival or children's birthday – children love to slip into different roles. It goes without saying that this not only includes a costume, but also make-up. However, children's make-up has come under criticism again and again: Carcinogenic and highly toxic substances are not uncommon in products! There are also irritating fragrances, preservatives and chemicals that cause allergies. According to Stiftung Warentest, many of the products repeatedly attract negative attention in a worrying way. It is therefore best to do the children's make-up yourself and not expose the little ones to any danger!

Make make-up yourself: that's how it works

Homemade children's make-up can be made from just a few ingredients:

  • Baby cream
  • Food coloring of your choice
  • Strength for white
  • Charcoal tablets for black (available in the pharmacy)

Colored children's make-up

  1. Melt 1 tablespoon of baby cream in a water bath.
  2. Mix the cream together so that it is uniform, then add the food coloring of your choice. You can create subtle colors with one or two splashes of food coloring, for more intense color nuances you can add up to ten splashes of food coloring. You can mix the colors too!
  3. Mix the food coloring thoroughly and then let the makeup cool.

Tips for mixing colors

You can usually get by with the basic colors yellow, blue and red:

  • You get green from blue and red.
  • You get purple from red and blue paint.
  • You mix orange by mixing red and yellow.

White make-up for children

  1. Mix a tablespoon of baby cream and a teaspoon of starch in a small container, then melt the ingredients in a water bath.
  2. Then stir the make-up well again and let it cool down before using.

Black make-up for children

  1. Grind three to four charcoal tablets in a mortar to a fine powder.
  2. Melt a tablespoon of cream in a water bath and then stir in the carbon powder well until you get a homogeneous make-up.
  3. Let everything cool down and the make-up fun can start!

Tip: The baby cream can also be turned to the lowest setting within five minutes microwave melt. Caution! Hot!

Use homemade children's make-up

  • Note that the children's make-up must always cool down before you apply it to the skin.
  • Since some food coloring leaves traces of color on the skin, you should test the finished make-up on an inconspicuous area: if it can be removed with a damp cloth without leaving any residue on the skin, you can use it.
  • Attention: These are relatively harmless ingredients, but in the worst case they can also trigger an allergy. To be 100 percent sure, you should test the make-up in the crook of your child's arm beforehand. An allergic reaction would show up in the form of redness.
  • Use a sponge to apply or a make-up brush for finer contours.
  • Wet tissues are suitable for removing make-up.
