Make oat milk yourself – quick & easy

Oat milk is the perfect herbal alternative to cow's milk. We introduce you to two ways how you can make oat milk yourself.

Make oat milk yourself: the ingredients

  • 70 grams of tender oatmeal
  • 1 liter of water
  • 1 pinch of salt

Make your own oat drink in the mixer

  1. Put the oatmeal in a blender and chop it up.
  2. Then you add the water and salt and mix the ingredients again.
  3. Place a cheesecloth or nut milk bag over a bowl and sieve the oat milk through.
  4. Finally, you can wring out the cloth to catch the last of the liquid. You don't have to throw away the remaining oatmeal, you can use it to make porridge or patties, for example.

The milk will keep in the refrigerator about 3 days. Homemade oat milk is relatively poor in taste, but you can, for example Refine with vanilla. If you prefer it sweeter, you can add a little sugar.

Prepare the oat milk in the pot

  1. Put the oat flakes, the water and the salt in a saucepan and bring to the boil. If you use crunchy oatmeal, you should soak it for 10 minutes beforehand.
  2. After 15 minutes you can take the pot off the stove and puree the oatmeal with a hand blender.
  3. Now pour everything through a sieve and collect the oat milk. If necessary, press down with a fork so that all liquid escapes.
  4. Last but not least, fill the oat milk into sealable bottles

Tip: If the oat drink is too thick, you can simply dilute it with a little water.

The benefits of oat milk

Oat milk is naturally lactose-free and low in fat. In addition, it is more climate-friendly than cow, almond or rice milk: Oats usually come from from regional cultivation, so that long transport routes are no longer necessary. In addition, the plant needs little water to grow.

Good news for all coffee drinkers: unlike many other plant-based milk alternatives, oat milk can be used foam very well. The advantage of homemade oat milk is that you know exactly what is in it: it usually contains less sugar than the finished version from the supermarket.
