Your bedroom should be the coziest place in your home – after all, you spend a third of the day in it! Here are 15 tricks on how you can conjure up your bedroom even more comfortably.
We spend about a third of the day at work. A third of the day is spent on the way to work, shopping, meeting friends, watching TV. We spend the last third in the bedroom.
It is the most important room in our apartment. Here we replenish our energy reserves. Here we dream. This is where we have the most intimate conversations with our partner.
All very good reasons why we should consciously set up the bedroom comfortably! This is where the oasis of happiness should be created, a place of refuge from any stress. A small peaceful world in itself.
1. Make the bedroom more comfortable with candlelight
Flickering fire creates a feeling of security and warmth in us. Ideal for making a room feel cozy. A few candles scattered around the room can work wonders!
Whether individual tea lights, thick standing candles or floating candles – the market offers a variety of ways to put your bedroom in the right light.
Make 2nd bedroom more comfortable with a sitting area
A small table and chairs with cushions by the window (or in a corner) immediately make the room appear more inviting. If you have enough space, you can also deposit a small couch in the bedroom. Every seat makes a room more homely (this also applies to large hallways, by the way!).
The quiet island can be used as a reading corner, for writing a diary in the evening or for sleepless nights when you just look out the window and let your thoughts run free…
3. Make the bedroom more comfortable with a shelf behind the bed
A – at best wooden – shelf behind the bed makes the sleeping place much more domestic. Whether you decorate it with candles or with photos of your loved ones is of course up to you. Even small bed lamps and books can be deposited on it.
The shelf creates a distance to the cool wall and makes the room look more comfortable. Small decorative cushions can also be leaned on the shelf for an extra cuddly kick.
4. Make the bedroom more comfortable with pictures
Photos and pictures on bare walls make every room look more harmonious and invite you to linger. If you want it to be cozy, the rule applies: the thicker the frame, the better! If it fits into the interior, you are welcome to use warm materials. Picture frames made of wood or fabric-covered frames radiate comfort.
If you don’t like picture frames, you can alternatively make a photo wall. To do this, hang (or glue) the selected photos very close together so that they look like wallpaper. Voilà, the bedroom exudes personality – and the photos may inspire sweet dreams…
5. Make the bedroom more comfortable with plants
A flower says more than a thousand words – this could be the motto for a tranquil interior. Plants breathe life into every apartment and give the impression of peaceful nature.
Whether a chic bouquet of flowers (according to the motto: gifts for myself) in a ceramic vase or a green plant – whatever pleases is allowed. The following plants are particularly suitable in the bedroom: the birch fig (filters pollutants), the delicately scented pink jasmine (ensures a more restful night), the easy-care aloe vera (releases oxygen), the lush golden palm (humidifies the air) or the well-known real one Lavender (helps you fall asleep).
6. Make the bedroom more comfortable with snuggly blankets and pillows
There are some things in life that you can’t get enough of. In addition to chocolate, this clearly also includes snuggly blankets! They are fluffy, cuddly, plump – an absolute must-have for a cozy bedroom.
And where do you store the – preferably colorful – blankets? No question – wherever you want! On wide window sills, chairs, armchairs, on free shelves, on the bed itself: there are no limits to your imagination!
By the way: Pillows also serve this purpose. Covers made of wool, cotton or fleece create a warm appearance (silk and linen have a cooling effect).
7. Make the bedroom more comfortable with the right light
Warm light allows us to relax and conveys comfort. Ideally, you should use lamps with fabric shades – whether on the ceiling, wall or bedside table.
Bright neon lights, on the other hand, have to stay outside! Cold light has a stimulating effect and has no place in the bedroom.
Tip: The color of the wall also makes a big difference. If you paint a wall with a warm color (e.g. with a natural tone like honey, sand color, caramel or ivory) the room will be a lot cozier.
8. Make the bedroom cozier with the right curtains
Curtains and curtains make a room more intimate when they reach from the ceiling to the floor. You feel safer, more hugged than with the short version.
The following applies to the fabrics: not so thick that they make the room appear gloomy, but also not so thin that you can see into the room from the outside.
The combination of curtains and drapes is an ideal way to let in light or to shield yourself.
9. Make the bedroom more comfortable with a fluffy carpet
The thicker the rug, the cozier it looks (and, by the way, feels that way when you walk barefoot over it). If you have enough space, you can also combine different rugs, for example a flokati on the bed and a high-pile rug in front of the wardrobe.
It is most practical to put the carpet next to the bed. Who wants to stand on cold ground first thing in the morning?!
10. Make bedroom cozier with filled corners
Empty corners look cool and bare – they should be avoided if possible. It works best with a chic sculpture, a tall palm tree or a corner shelf.
A nicely decorated corner looks much softer. Small corner shelves can be stocked with personal memorabilia or family photos. Books turn every shelf into a small oasis of well-being.
11. Make the bedroom more comfortable with a bench at the foot of the bed
If you don’t want to put a headboard or shelf behind the bed (see point 3), you can also put a bench or chest at the foot of the bed. It rounds off the furnishings and can also be used as a shelf.
Of course, you can also decorate it with cushions or blankets – this way it becomes a real eye-catcher!
12. Make your bedroom cozier with the right linens
Bedding is not just bedding. The materials can decide whether the whole room looks poor or icy.
Bedding ensures a cozy bedroom
- Cotton
- beaver
- terry cloth
- flannel
- Seersucker (suitable for summer)
On the other hand, percale, silk, satin and jersey leave a cool impression.
If you don’t want to change your entire range of bed linen now, you can use bedspreads. As with bed linen, the rule here is: the brighter the colors, the better! Patterns also work: checks, for example, look very homely.
13. Make the bedroom cozier with fairy lights
At Christmas time it gets nice and cozy in the apartments. Not entirely innocent are the fairy lights, which no longer just decorate Christmas trees, but also shelves or walls.
The dim light of the small lamps creates a cozy – and quite romantic – atmosphere in the bedroom.
When choosing the color, please make sure that the light does not appear too cool (see point 7).
14. Make the bedroom more comfortable with a four-poster bed
Haven’t we all dreamed of a four-poster bed? It doesn’t have to be a luxury item. A wonderful four-poster bed can be conjured up with large towels, old bed sheets or simple insect protection nets!
Tip: In combination with fairy lights, slightly transparent fabrics on the wall or ceiling are an absolute eye-catcher!
15. Make the bedroom more comfortable with colorful highlights
Whether it’s a subtle coat of paint (e.g. a strip of color on the wall), colorful curtains, loud decorative cushions or decorative boxes under the bed: color nuances not only decorate the bedroom, but also make it appear cozier.
The advantage of large boxes or small boxes: They offer enough storage space for odds and ends lying around!
