Make your own Pumpkin Spice Latte at home

You love the Pumpkin Spice Latte from Starbucks and Co, but don't want to spend a small fortune on it? We'll tell you how to do it yourself.

Every year we look forward like little children when it finally arrives: the Pumpkin Spice Latte. The coffee shop favorite from Starbucks & Co., which tastes so wonderful after autumn walks and cozy afternoons on the couch, is for many the first sign that autumn is really here.

The only problem: the price. At just under 5 euros per cup, the Pumpkin Spice Latte is a small investment if you buy it in a coffee shop. We are therefore delighted that there are opportunities to easily make our autumn favorites yourself at home!

Pumpkin Spice Latte with Pumpkin Pie Seasoning

Our tip to enjoy the Pumpkin Spice Latte without paying a small fortune to the coffee dealer you trust is to make it yourself with autumnal spices, milk and agave syrup. Simply boil a fresh espresso, heat and froth the milk and then refine it with a spice mixture of nutmeg, cloves, ginger and cinnamon powder. You can also buy the mixture ready-made as a pumpkin pie spice. Alternatively, gingerbread or speculoos can be used, although the taste nuances can vary.

That's how it works: Mix the spices quickly with a dash of agave syrup and then add the espresso and the spice syrup to the frothed milk in the glass – done!

Ingredients for a glass of Pumpkin Spice Latte:

  • 1 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice (if necessary, mix 4 teaspoons nutmeg, 3 ground cloves, 4 teaspoons ginger powder and 4 teaspoons cinnamon powder yourself)
  • 1 tbsp agave syrup
  • 120 ml frothed, warm milk
  • 1 freshly brewed espresso

Pumpkin Spice Latte with real pumpkin

A nice alternative is this vegan Pumpkin Spice Latte with real pumpkin, which we found on Sarah's blog Champagne Tastes (in English). Not only is it significantly cheaper, it is also much healthier than the original coffee shop, which is bursting with artificial additives.

Sarah uses a pumpkin puree for her creation, just as you know it from the classic American pumpkin pie. In this country it is often difficult to buy this. Therefore, it is best to do it yourself with a fresh Hokkaido. Simply cut the pulp and puree. Also in their vegan Pumpkin Spice Latte: coconut milk, cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg.

The puree is first heated. Then the espresso is brewed and coconut milk is heated and frothed. First pour the puree into the glass, then pour in the espresso and finally pour in the milk. Crown with foam and enjoy. The exact recipe can be found here.

A little tip for those in a hurry

With the "Baileys Pumpkin Spice" you can quickly cheat the pumpkin spice aroma into your coffee latte. Simply brew as normal, froth and add 60 ml of the liqueur.
