For example, we like to use them to camouflage dark circles (without marking fine lines). But this small object being in contact with both your face and makeup, it is essential to wash it regularly.
Asked by Current wifeNina Roos, dermatologist, reminds us that they must be cleaned regularly “to rid them of cosmetic debris, skin or hair which would contaminate them and make their use ineffective. She recommends washing with “a foaming cleanser that dissolves grease like dishwashing liquid or shampoo. These contain very foaming surfactants.. Clean with lukewarm water, using your hands to loosen what is stuck.
But once your sponge is clean, there is one mistake you should definitely not make to prevent mold from proliferating inside. Dermatologist Dr Shereene Idriss spoke about it on her TikTok account.
The mistake you should never make after washing your makeup sponge
She explains that a makeup sponge is a perfect breeding ground for mold, particularly inside the object and therefore invisible to the naked eye. To prove this, she does a little demonstration with another woman named Tiffany, who also uses a beauty blender. When cut, that of the latter is actually moldy in the center while that of Dr. Idriss is impeccable. But then, what is the difference? The way the two women dry their sponges!
The doctor specifies that Tiffany keeps her beauty blender in an airtight silicone box, thinking it is more hygienic. Problem is, if the sponge is placed while still damp in an enclosed space, then this will be the perfect breeding ground for the development of mold and the proliferation of bacteria. Dr Idriss, on the contrary, lets his sponge dry in the open air. To prevent your sponge from being responsible for the appearance of imperfections on your skin, the dermatologist advises washing it after each use, letting it air dry and changing it every three months.
