If you look at snowflakes in magnification, you can see fascinating ice crystals – all beautiful in their own way. Here you can see how you can make the filigree structures and bring them into your home as decoration.

When the snowflakes dance in the winter time, magical moments arise: the surroundings are covered with a white shell, noises are muffled and everything looks very peaceful. We are not lucky enough to be able to observe the gentle fall of snowflakes in winter everywhere. Nevertheless, we don’t have to do without the filigree beauty of the delicate structures: we simply bring snowflakes into our own four walls as decoration.

Snowflake whitedress

This simple DIY made from sandwich bags creates voluminous snowflakes or alternatively stars for the Christmas season. To make the snowflakes, use liquid glue or a glue stick to glue ten bags together along the center line and bottom edge. The opening of the bags at the top remains free. Then take a pair of scissors and cut out the upper edge round and/or square. You can also cut out individual triangles on the sides. Pull the figure apart like a harmonica and close it into a circle. To connect both ends, put glue on the bags again below and in the middle and press them together. Your snowflakes are ready, you just have to thread them and then hang them on the window.

Edible snowflakes

For anyone who’s into edible snowflake snacking, here’s a quick guide that’s perfect to set up for a cozy coffee table: Poke small marshmallows on toothpicks. For the middle you take two chocolate biscuits with nonpareille, between which you position the toothpicks crossed. Melt some chocolate in a water bath and put it between the two chocolate biscuits so that the individual parts connect with each other.

Cold porcelain snowflakes

Cold porcelain is a beautiful way to make pendants and shape or decorate them in any shape you like. You probably already have the ingredients at home: all you need is cornstarch, baking soda and water. You can then use simple cookie cutters or embossing stamps to design your pendants in the shape of snowflakes. Use a wooden stick to drill a small hole for hanging and then let the pendant air dry for a day or two. After that you can decorate a few branches with small white snowflakes. Here you can find out how you can make cold porcelain aka modeling clay yourself. Alternatively, salt dough or polymer clay is also suitable.

Noble snowflakes made from toilet paper rolls

This filigree masterpiece requires a little patience, but it’s really worth it! Simple toilet paper rolls form the basis for implementing the upcycling project. In the video you can see how the toilet paper roll is first cut into strips, then partially halved and reassembled with hot glue. If you want to give the snowflake a final touch, spray the pendant with glitter or gold spray and glue on a pearl. The little work of art is done!

paper cuts

A true classic among snowflake crafts: snowflake paper cuts. You can easily use muffin cases and flatten them out, or you can cut out round circles out of white paper. Fold the circles in half several times to make a narrow triangle. Then cut out spikes and shapes from the edges as shown in the video – just make sure not to cut the middle strand. It is best to feel your way from coarser motifs to more delicate ones so that the snowflake motifs do not tear. The silhouettes are ideal as window pictures.
