Man dies on the road – alcoholic driver mows down accident victim and helper

Tragic accident on Saturday night in Weißkirchen, Styria: A 62-year-old woman wanted to help a scooter driver who had fallen. An alcoholic driver was no longer able to brake and hit the two of them without braking. The man died directly at the scene of the accident. The helper was critically injured.

The tragic accident occurred on the B77 near Weißkirchen on Friday around 11.40 p.m. A 50-year-old man from the Murtal district was riding his e-scooter on the open road, which has no artificial lighting, when he fell due to his own fault. The driver of an oncoming vehicle noticed the accident, stopped his vehicle and turned on the hazard lights. The driver’s 62-year-old wife was the first to get out of the vehicle to provide first aid to the injured scooter driver. Alko-driver hit the two without braking. A 25-year-old car driver who came to the scene of the accident a short time later overlooked all of this. Without stopping, he hit the accident victim and the first aider. The 50-year-old died at the scene of the accident, the 62-year-old was initially taken to the LKH Judenburg and then to the LKH Graz with life-threatening injuries. An alcohol test on the driver of the car showed that he was moderately intoxicated. The Leoben public prosecutor ordered the seizure of the vehicles involved and an autopsy on the 50-year-old scooter driver. The relatives were notified by the police in the presence of the crisis intervention team. The car driver will be reported to the Leoben public prosecutor’s office on suspicion of negligent homicide.
