Man sentenced to life in prison for murdering teacher in London

British justice sentenced Friday April 8 to life imprisonment, with a minimum of 36 years, the murderer of a teacher last September in a London park whose brutality had caused great emotion in the United Kingdom.

Refusing to attend sentencing at the Old Bailey court, Koci Selamaj, a 36-year-old Albanian national, was convicted of the stabbing to death of Sabina Nessa, 28, on September 17. Arrested four days later, the accused pleaded guilty. According to CCTV footage, the young woman was attacked as she crossed a south London park to join a friend, then hit 34 times by the murderer with a warning triangle, and left unconscious.

The murderer then moved his victim out of sight, undressed her, strangled her, before covering the body in the grass. While no evidence of sexual assault was found, the prosecution believes the murder had a sexual motive. Sabina Nessa’s death came just months after that of Sarah Everard, a 33-year-old Londoner who was attacked in the street and then killed in early March on her way home, a case that shocked the country and reignited the debate on women’s safety. in public space.
