Irishman returns from forced exile in China

When Richard O’Halloran flew to China in February 2019, little did he know that he would not see his family for almost three years. Beijing arrested the manager in the country, the head of his company is said to have cheated investors. The Irish government is now apparently making a deal with China.

An Irish manager has returned home after being forced to stay in China for three years because of a business dispute. Richard O’Halloran arrived in Dublin this morning and saw his four children for the first time, his wife Tara tweeted.

The Irish Times newspaper reported that the manager of an aircraft leasing company has agreed to a deal agreed by Ireland and China that would include tens of thousands of euros in monthly payments to Beijing,

The case involved a dispute between O’Halloran’s Chinese employer and the authorities in Beijing. The businessman flew to China in February 2019, also to testify in court against his boss, who had defrauded Chinese investors. However, despite the diplomatic pressure, the Irishman was not allowed to leave the country. O’Halloran stated he suffered from sleep deprivation and mental stress.
