Manuela Schwesig has an operation. “The cancer is not back, but the consequences of intensive cancer therapy must be addressed,” she said.

Manuela Schwesig (47), Prime Minister of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, will undergo an operation today, February 15. The politician announced this. “The prime minister has had to postpone this procedure a number of times due to the corona pandemic. Now it has to be carried out on the advice of the doctors,” said government spokesman Andreas Timm in a statement.

Schwesig also informed her followers on Twitter that the surgery “has now become urgent”. It says more there: “Nobody has to worry. The cancer is not back. But the consequences of the intensive cancer therapy must be eliminated. Take care of yourselves and stay healthy”.

The prime minister asked her deputy, Simone Oldenburg, “to conduct official business during her stay in the hospital and the subsequent recovery phase at home,” the government spokesman said. “In the conference of heads of government, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania will be represented by the head of the State Chancellery, Patrick Dahlemann, in accordance with the usual rule of representation in MPKs.”

Manuela Schwesig made her breast cancer diagnosis public in September 2019. In May 2020, the SPD politician confirmed that the cancer therapy was successful. “It was the hardest fight of my life so far,” she said at the time.
