Marcus Thuram last-minute guest on Didier Deschamps’ list

Eight days before the first match of the Blues at the 2022 World Cup, Didier Deschamps called in last-minute reinforcements. The coach of the French team, defending champion, called Marcus Thuram (4 caps), Borussia Mönchengladbach striker, to complete the tricolor group selected for the competition in Qatar. A source within the French Football Federation confirmed, Monday, November 14, the information announced initially, Monday morning, by The Team.

This summons rewards the 25-year-old’s prolific start to the season with his club Mönchengladbach. Author of 10 goals and 3 assists in 15 games, Marcus Thuram is currently the second top scorer in the German championship.

The former Sochaux and Guingamp player had not been called up with the Blues since the summer of 2021, on the occasion of the Euro. He had then crossed the competition as a substitute, coming into play a few minutes at the very end of the match during the round of 16 against Switzerland, finally lost by the world champions on penalties.

That summer, his progress was hampered by a ligament tear in his right knee, which sidelined him for several weeks.
