A former jungle queen as mayor? This could have happened in the Brandenburg municipality of Oberkrämer. There the former “Wheel of Fortune” fairy Maren Gilzer (61), who won the jungle camp in 2015, stood for the FDP. According to the preliminary final results However, the 61-year-old received only 6.1 percent of the votes and clearly missed the runoff.

Gilzer competed against six other candidates. Wolfgang Geppert (BVB/Freie Wahler), who received 32.7 percent of the votes, and Deputy Mayor Carolin Schmiel (BfO) with 25.5 percent will go into the run-off election on February 13.

“A respectable success”

Maren Gilzer announced her candidacy in November 2021. In 2017 she joined the FDP after meeting party leader Christian Lindner (42), as she explained to the “Bild” newspaper: “He just convinced me.” Nevertheless, Gilzer is positive about the election result. The Märkische Allgemeine Zeitung (MAZ) said Gilzer: “For someone who doesn’t come from Oberkrämer and in the brevity of the election campaign, that’s a respectable success.”
