The Danish royal family will keep a bitter taste from this year 2023… As of January 1, four of the eight grandchildren of Margrethe II, namely the children of her youngest son Prince Joachim, were stripped of their titles of princes and princesses, according to the wish of the monarch expressed during her golden jubilee. A decision which caused a scandal in the press around the world and which saddened the parents of Nikolaï, Felix, Henrik and Athena. Another controversy: rumors of infidelities of Frederik, crown prince of the Danish crown, who allegedly cheated on his wife Mary of Denmark in early November with the Mexican Genoveva Casanova. Two situations therefore which have widened the distance between the queen’s sons. As the holiday season quickly approaches, it is worth asking ourselves if Frederik and Joachim will celebrate Christmas together… According to an article from Hello ! published this Saturday, November 25, the two princes have indeed planned to meet under the tree.
“The Danish royal family’s Christmas holiday schedule has been confirmed: Margrethe will visit at Marselisborg Palace on December 20, where she will celebrate Christmas Eve with the Crown Prince’s family, viz. Frederik, Princess Marie and their four children, Prince Christian, Princess Isabelle, Prince Vincent and Princess Joséphine”, the tabloid said. According to our colleagues, Prince Joachim, his wife Princess Marie, and their two children (now) Count Henrik and Countess Athena will also attend. They will therefore travel from Washington where they settled last September, being attached to the Danish embassy in the American city.
Will only be missing at the table this New Year’s Eve Joachim’s two eldest children, Counts Nikolai and Felix. The second will join the royal family for Christmas Day, while Nikolai will spend Christmas abroad. The young earl is indeed studying at the University of Technology in Sydney and probably plans to spend the rest of the winter with his girlfriend, Benedikte Thoustrup, who followed her lover around the world. In addition to the latter’s absence, this large family reunion proves that tensions between Joachim and the rest of the royal family have eased since the affair of the withdrawal of his children’s titles.

When did Frederik and Joachim last see each other?
The Christmas holidays will not be the first reunion for the sons of Margrethe II in this tense year. Frederik and Joachim are indeed managed to make a good public appearance, attending several family events side by side. Latest example: the organized party for the 18th birthday of Prince Christian of Denmark.
