THE UNAVOIDABLE

Marie-Antoinette – Monday, October 31

Marie-Antoinette was barely 14 years old when she left Austria to marry the heir to the throne of France. Stubborn and dissipated, the young woman must comply with the strict and numerous French rules, in particular that of Etiquette. Amid the intrigues and rivalries of the Court, the Archduchess will have to learn to play her cards right…

Carried by the light and sparkling interpretation of Emilia Schüle and Louis Cunningham, this adaptation of the life of Marie-Antoinette should delight history enthusiasts as much as the great romantics. This series in eight episodes, created by Deborah Davis (screenwriter of La Favorite), can be discovered from October 31 on CANAL +.

Trigger Point – Thursday, November 10

Lana Washington is a member of a London police bomb squad. When a series of terrorist attacks hit the British capital, this former soldier finds herself on the front line and must do everything to protect the city, even if it means putting her own life in danger.

Vicky McClure, already seen in Broadchurch and Alex Rider, delivers a solid performance from a woman under tension whose rigor and composure impress in all circumstances. The continuous suspense of Trigger Point has allowed it to break audience records in Great Britain and place itself in the top 5 of the most watched series over the past three years. There is no doubt that French spectators will also take their breath away!

Death on the Nile – Friday, November 18

And to his great displeasure, there is no shortage of suspects in this dark affair!

After the success of Murder on the Orient Express, Kenneth Branagh (Thor, Belfast) returns with Death on the Nile, a new adaptation of a cult novel by Agatha Christie. Keeping his double role as director/detective, the British surrounds himself with a new five-star cast for this cruise in Egypt: Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman), Tom Bateman (back in Mr Bouc), Annette Bening (Mars Attacks and American Beauty), Rose Leslie (Game of Thrones), Emma Mackey (Sex Education and Eiffel) …

If you can’t wait to solve this new mystery, get out your best pipe, smooth your mustache and get ready to collect the clues, starting November 18.

HIGHLIGHTS

Nightmare Alley – Tuesday, November 1

While he is going through a bad patch, the charismatic Stanton Carlisle arrives at a traveling fair and manages to attract the good graces of a clairvoyant and her husband, a former glory of mentalism. Learning from them, he sees a way to get his ticket to success and decides to use his new talents to rip off the elite of good New York society in the 1940s.

After making an impression with masterpieces such as Pan’s Labyrinth and The Shape of Water, Oscar-winning director Guillermo del Toro returns with Nightmare Alley, closer to film noir than his usual fables.

But its characters, embodied by a brilliant cast (Bradley Cooper, Cate Blanchett, Tony Collette), are always the same dark and distorted reflection of an ambitious humanity, eaten away by its desires and impulses. Del Toro admirers or neophytes, go ahead with your eyes closed to discover this little gem of writing, staging and interpretation!

Fans of the Kingsman saga, the time has come for you to discover the origins of the largest network of secret agents in all of Great Britain. Carried by the deliciously British game of legendary actors, King’s Man: first mission is an excellent way to reconnect with the first two parts of the adventures of Gary Unwin as a fourth episode, Kingsman: The Blue Blood, approaches, which should out in 2023 at the cinema.

Fabrice, a comedy actor, realizes he doesn’t have his loyalty card while shopping. Despite the threat of a guard, he manages to escape. Then begins a merciless run, for the one who quickly becomes public enemy number 1.
