Mario Adorf criticizes the fact that younger actors are often “trimmed old”. One should let “the old play the old”.
Actor Mario Adorf (90) criticized in an interview that age would play too big a role in the cast these days. He also called for old actors to impersonate old characters.
The MDR tabloid magazine “Brisant” Adorf said on the sidelines of the Nibelungen Festival: “Why should the young play the old, that’s nonsense.” The year that you “have under your belt” would often be more important than the appearance of the actors. With his role in “Der Große Bellheim” he himself proved that “the elderly also have something to offer”.
“When is he finally going to leave?”
Younger colleagues would be preferred instead and then “trimmed old”, said Adorf, who celebrated his 90th birthday on September 8, 2020. He also criticizes the way older actors are dealt with: “They just say he’s so old that the insurance doesn’t pay, for example, or: ‘When will he finally leave?'”
On the other hand, Adorf is astonished that the corona-related forced break seemed very short: “The time has shrunk. […] Maybe it’s just me and my age, “explains the actor.
