Next month will come out Super Mario Bros. wonderbut for the first time, Charles Martinet will not lend his voice to the mustachioed plumber. nintendo announced a few days ago that the comedian will no longer be dubbing mario or the other characters of Mushroom Kingdom in the future, buthe will now be “Mario Ambassador”.
A nice title that does not mean much, all the fans are wondering what Charles Martinet will do now… and he too. Nintendo Everything met the actor at the Galaxycon Austin 2023and the latter admitted to having no idea of his future mission with nintendo :
I am now Mario Ambassador. I don’t know what it is yet. I’m not retired so to speak, but I’m an ambassador. As we move forward into the future, we will all learn exactly what it is.
For his part, the CEO of Nintendo of America Doug Bowser also returned to this case at IGN :
Well, Charles has obviously been a voice actor with us for a while, and as we looked for ways to keep Charles involved in the Nintendo business, we thought it was a very nice transition for him. And Charles is very excited about it. I’ll let Charles talk about it himself if he wants, but we look forward to seeing him continue to represent Nintendo and especially the Mushroom Kingdom as we move forward. I think people have recognized this when they see Super Mario Bros. Wonder, they’ll hear a different voice, we’ll let that happen, it’ll be in the credits, and people will find out who the new person is at some point, but we don’t plan to make an announcement before that.
nintendo therefore wanted to set aside Charles Martinet to dub his characters, he who lends his voice to mario since the opus Nintendo 64, without putting it totally at the door. It must be said that the new dubbing actor mario is still unknown, while Charles Martinet is a legend of the video game world, who will be called upon in the future to participate in promotional events with nintendo.
