BONN (Reuters) – Gazprom Germania, the German energy arm of Gazprom which was sanctioned by Moscow in April, is expected to fulfill its gas supply contracts by sourcing from alternative sources, the chairman of the German energy authority said. network regulation.
The Bundesnetzagentur (BNetzA) was forced to take control of Gazprom Germania’s operations until the end of September, after Russian state-owned gas giant Gazprom announced its withdrawal from the subsidiary without explanation.
In addition, Russia placed parts of Gazprom Germania under sanctions last month, which “doesn’t make business any easier”, BNetzA’s Klaus Mueller told Reuters TV.
“However, we find that we can buy gas from other sources through Gazprom Germania. And that is why contracts will continue to be filled,” he said.
The BNetzA, which is also responsible for rationing existing gas supplies if Moscow were to reduce or cut off flows to the country, said the country was well supplied with gas.
However, she again called on companies and households to save as much gas as possible in order to fill storage facilities in Germany, which are 52.9% full, a difficult challenge for certain sectors of German industry.
While Germany remains concerned about possible disruptions to Russian gas supplies, the uneventful passage of an end-May deadline for the adoption of a new payment system demanded by Moscow has eased fears of an imminent total blackout.
