Market: looking for catalysts from the side of the Fed


(CercleFinance.com) – European stock markets are showing some caution this morning, a few days before the start of the fourth quarter earnings season in the United States.

In this context, Paris and Frankfurt yielded 0.5%, while London fell by 0.2%.

Without economic statistics or expected results from leading companies, investors, on the lookout for catalysts, should logically turn to the Federal Reserve.

Indeed, Jerome Powell, leader of the Fed, is due to speak this afternoon during a speech devoted to the theme of central bank independence at a symposium organized in Stockholm by the Riksbank, the Central Sweden.

In the meantime, investors were able to take note of the rebound in production in the manufacturing industry in France in November 2022, at +2.4% after -2.1% the previous month, according to CVS-CJO data. from INSEE.

The end of the week will also see the publication of macroeconomic data that may hold the attention, starting with the inflation figures in the United States for December, closely watched from the perspective of the monetary policy of the Fed.

In European company news, the BMW Group says it delivered a total of 2,399,636 BMW, MINI and Rolls-Royce vehicles to customers around the world in 2022 (-4.8%).
