Marseille: a man killed after attacking the police with a knife


It was in the early afternoon that a man armed with a knife was neutralized by police in Marseille. According to a police source, the attacker was “threatening” and rushed to the police, without causing any injuries.

“Thank you to the courageous police officers who neutralized a threatening individual, armed with a knife, in a commercial area in Marseille. The assailant died. No other injured”, reacted in the process, on Twitter, the Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin.

At around 1 p.m., a police team went to a store in the La Valentine shopping center in the east of Marseille, after the report of a man armed with a kitchen knife threatening passers-by was given , learned CNEWS from a source familiar with the matter.

The 50-year-old man then rushed to the police. Considering the behavior of the individual threatening, the officers present did not hesitate to use their service weapons to stop him, on three occasions.

Hit by several bullets, the man died of his injuries, after having suffered a cardiac arrest, when help arrived.

Apart from the author of the attack, no injuries were to be deplored among all the people present on the scene, however a psychological aid cell was set up by the police headquarters, in particular for witnesses of the scene.

According to AFP, the investigation was entrusted to the judicial police as well as to the IGPN (General Inspectorate of the National Police), since the latter is systematically seized when a police officer uses his service weapon.
