Marseille: kidnapped and raped, a 14-year-old girl located thanks to her Instagram and Snapchat messengers

Her cries for help helped the police find her. A 14-year-old girl, kidnapped and repeatedly raped in a building in the 15th arrondissement of Marseille, was able to be located by the police on Friday at dawn, using her Instagram and Snapchat messengers, the prosecutor’s office said on Saturday. The victim had initially managed to contact his family to call for help. The Marseille police, contacted by relatives, “succeeded, via the phone that the girl was using, in locating her on the basis of the calls she could make to them via Instagram and Snapchat messengers”, said the Marseille prosecutor’s office.

The victim had run away since January 10, had never shown up at the college where his host family had dropped him off, according to France Bleu. The radio specifies that the victim had already run away in the past, in particular to find his biological mother.

According to the Marseille prosecutor’s office, the teenager was “terrorized” when the police found her in the Marseille apartment.

Two men aged 24 and 64, “known to the judicial services, but in no way for such facts”, were arrested and taken into custody. “Both did not dispute the reality of sexual intercourse, but disputed having been aware of the age of the young girl and affirmed that the relations were consensual”, said the prosecution. They also denied having kidnapped the victim.

A judicial investigation was opened by the Marseille prosecutor’s office on the counts of kidnapping and rape of a 15-year-old minor. Requisitions for the purposes of placement in pre-trial detention have been transmitted.
