Marvel: after Thor, another film for Russell Crowe

Russell Crowe joins Aaron Taylor-Johnson in the cast of the Sony/Marvel movie, Kraven the Hunter. JC Chandor’s feature film dedicated to a new enemy of Spider-Man will be released in theaters on January 18, 2023.

He could have been one of Spider-Man’s enemies in No Way Home, but Marvel decided otherwise. Nevertheless, Kraven the hunter will be entitled to his solo film and, why not in a few years, to his meeting with the Spider-Man.

In the meantime, the feature film by JC Chandor (A most violent year, Triple border) is moving forward since Russell Crowe has just joined Aaron Taylor-Johnson (who plays the title role) in the casting of the Sony film.

The details of the story and the role of the New Zealand actor are still kept secret but we know that several main characters of the feature film will be members of the Kraven family.

Created in 1964 by Stan Lee and designer Steve Ditko, Sergei Kravinov alias Kraven the Hunter appeared for the first time in the comic-book The Amazing Spider-Man (vol.1, n°15).

After meeting a sorcerer who gives him the secrets of a potion to increase his strength tenfold, the hunter develops superhuman strength, keen senses and great speed. Dressed in the skins of animals that he killed with his bare hands, he arrives in New York to track down Spider-Man following the call of his half-brother the Chameleon aka Dmitri Smerdiakov.

This will be Russell Crowe’s second foray into a Marvel film since the actor plays Zeus in Thor: Love And Thunder (in theaters July 13, 2022).

The origin story around Kraven the hunter is already announced in our theaters for January 18, 2023. Less than a year after Morbius (in theaters on March 30), another film in the franchise devoted to the enemies of Spider-Man and initiated with Venom.
