Marvel finally reveals the cast of the Fantastic Four film… but postpones its release date

It’s been an open secret for several months, and it’s now official: the actors who will play the famous superhero team of Fantastic Four Starring in the upcoming film are Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn and Ebon Moss-Bachrach. Marvel Studios made the announcement via his social networkswith a visual containing some clues about the story.

A stellar cast

After a first nanar in 1994, two films in the 2000s and a failed reboot in 2015, Marvel’s “first family” will be entitled to a new film, this time at the heart of the heart Famous MCU.

Its casting was therefore expected, and Marvel chose Valentine’s Day to announce it via a small illustration, to discover below:

Pedro Pascal (The Last of Us, The Mandalorian) will therefore play Red Richards, aka Mr. Fantastic, a brilliant scientist capable of stretching his body in a superhuman way. The character has already appeared in the MCU under the guise of John Krasinski, in the film Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madnessthe concept of multiverse nevertheless makes it possible to offer several versions of the character.

He is married to Jane Storm, aka the Invisible Woman, who will be played by Vanessa Kirby (Impossible mission, The Crown). A businesswoman and adventurer, she is capable of making herself invisible and generating force fields.

She is the big sister of Johnny Storm, played by Joseph Quinn (Stranger Things). Nicknamed “the Human Torch”, Johnny can control fire and also fly.

Ben Grimm, aka “the Thing”, is a test pilot and best friend of Red Richards. Due to cosmic radiation, his appearance becomes stony, and he gains superhuman strength. He will be played by actor Ebon Moss-Bachrach, seen in the series The Bear And Andor.

Directed by Matt Shakman (Wandavision, Monarch, Succession) on a screenplay by the trio Josh Friedman (Avatar 2), Jeff Kaplan and Ian Springer, this film Fantastic Four also sees its release date move from April 30, 2025 to July 23, 2025. It takes the place of the other Marvel film, Thunderboltswhich will therefore be released in April.

Back in the 60s?

Fantastic Four is one of the most important projects in the Marvel Universe. Created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby in 1961, the superhero team is inseparable from the success of Marvel comics.

The film should tell the adventures of these heroes exposed to cosmic rays and developing superpowers. It should also introduce the villains Doctor Doom and Galactus, and inaugurate the next big “space” arc of the MCU.

But if the precise story of the film is not yet known, Marvel’s illustration gives us some clues. This suggests that the plot will take place in the 1960s. In fact, the character of Ben Grimm reads an issue of the magazine life with US President Lyndon B. Johnson on the cover, from December 1963.

A supposition which is in agreement with the “retro” costumes of the characters, and the new artistic direction of the logo clearly reminiscent of the 60s. If this is confirmed, Fantastic Four will be the first Marvel film since Captain America: The First Avenger (2011), to place the majority of its plot in a relatively distant past.

The film is expected in theaters on July 23, 2025. In the meantime, almost all of the MCU films are available on the Disney+ streaming platform, with the exception of the most recent ones.
