Marvel: Marvel end for Jonathan Majors? This is how things could continue in the MCU after “Loki” and without Kang

LOKI

Kang is playing an increasingly larger role in the MCU’s Multiverse Saga. But actor Jonathan Majors mainly attracts attention through negative headlines. Will he be replaced now?

  • The conqueror played by Jonathan Majors is expected to play a major role in the MCU at least until the start of “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty”.
  • But Majors is accused of domestic violence and behind the scenes, Disney is planning a future without Majors – and perhaps without Kang…

Almost every MCU film gives us a new villain who can be dealt with shortly before the credits roll. But with Thanos, the first three phases of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, also known as the Infinity Saga, received a story-spanning villain who was so powerful that all the Avengers had to fight him together.

For phases 4 to 6, the Multiverse Saga, Marvel decided on Kang the Conqueror as Thanos’ replacement. With its numerous variants from countless universes, it fit perfectly into the multiverse theme and with Jonathan Majors, Disney secured a sought-after actor who first appeared in season 1 of “Loki”.

But now Disney and Marvel regret this decision. Not only did “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” flop at the box office and now the question is whether the audience is even interested in Kang and his power plans. Jonathan Majors is also causing problems; an accusation of domestic violence could soon end his Marvel career. But what happens next with Kang and without Jonathan Majors?

Farewell to Kang?

According to a recent report from Variety, numerous Marvel employees met in September 2023 to discuss the future of the MCU. These meetings are a tradition at Marvel, but while people usually talked in a good mood about the plans for the seemingly infallible Marvel film universe, this time the mood was tense.

This was due to “Quantumania” and other productions like “She-Hulk”, which simply didn’t resonate with audiences, but of course also due to Majors’ Kang. Some producers suggested simply replacing Kang with another Marvel villain, such as Dr. Doom, but such a change would cause further problems.

Kang has already been introduced too strongly as a big villain, and we now know six variants of him. The finale of “Loki” Season 2 only further solidifies Kang’s position as the main villain, so there’s no going back.

It is much more likely that Jonathan Majors will be replaced by another actor. It’s actually very easy for Marvel to find a new actor for Kang, after all, there are millions of Kang variants that all look different. “Loki” already showed us various variants of Loki, not all of which were embodied by Tom Hiddleston.

Disney has not yet commented publicly on the Jonathan Majors situation. However, filming on “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty” is scheduled to start in 2024, so time is of the essence and a decision must be made. Maybe Disney is simply waiting for the outcome of Majors’ trial and doesn’t want to rush to judgment. The process will begin at the end of November 2023, and Disney will certainly be following it with interest.
