After the releases of Starfield and of Forza Motorsport on the Xbox side, it’s Sony’s turn to unveil its game with Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. Suffice to say that it works, since it very quickly builds its success, with figures to back it up.

Insomniac Games, to whom we owe in particular Spyro And Ratchet & Clank, focused for Sony on the most popular superhero in the world, Spider-Man. The studio thus offers a new version of the hero, canon, which, in 2018, delighted players on PS4 while opening the door wide for a sequel.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 was announced in 2021 during a PlayStation 5 Showcase and has been setting the Internet ablaze ever since. Besides Peter Parker and Miles Morales, we guess that Kraven the Hunter will be there, and that he could well team up with the terrible Venom.

Spider-Man 2 is the fastest-selling PlayStation Studios game in history

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 was therefore released exclusively on PS5 on October 20. A good day for video games, since opposite was released Super Mario Bros. Wonder on Nintendo Switch. But if sales of the Nintendo game remain unknown for the moment, we already have figures for the Insomniac Games game. Just 24 hours after its release, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 became the fastest-selling PlayStation Studios game, selling 2.5 million copies in a single day!

This is a record for the brand, which had already achieved very good sales with God of War Ragnarok and its 5.1 million units sold in one week, as with the first Marvel’s Spider-Man, which had convinced 3.3 million people in just three days. The success of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is also felt through criticism, whether from the press or users.

On the Metacritic aggregator, the PS5 exclusive displays a score of 90/100 from the press side, and 9.1/10 for the user score. It remains to be seen whether sales will continue in the coming weeks, but with the holidays approaching, there’s a good chance that the friendly neighborhood spider will spin its web in and under the trees.
