The international ecofeminist group WECF unveils its recent study on the ingredients of cosmetic products and potentially harmful substances for pregnancy and the environment.

According to a study published by the international ecofeminist network of organizations WECF (Women Engaged for a Common Future) France, this Thursday, September 30, some cosmetics would contain harmful substances for pregnant women, those with plans to pregnancy and for the environment.

Last May, the WECF teams France bought 47 cosmetic products (Fenty Beauty, L’Oréal Paris, Garnier, Nivea, Caudalie, Clarins, Erborian …) including 17 BB creams, 15 mascaras and 15 concealer in supermarkets, pharmacies, drugstores, organic stores and perfumeries. They selected the products whose sales figures have persisted or for some have increased since 2020 and the health crisis (including mascara, sales up 150%).

37 problematic substances

Their study reveals a complicated labeling and ingredients difficult to decipher on “a number of products”. After one expert reading labels and inspection of “ingredients potentially health and / or environmental issues”, The teams identified a fifty plastic ingredients and 37 problematic substances (endocrine disruptors, persistent substances, bioaccumulators, nanoparticles and allergens) based on a scientific literary journal.

WECF France classified these 37 problematic substances in 3 categories: “very worrying”,“worrying” and “quite worrying”. In The report published, there are 13 substances “very worrying”, 9 substances“worrying”And 15 substances“quite worrying”.

Following this investigation, the organization has several queries like “ban certain ingredients without delay”,“quickly replace plastic ingredients“, Where “inform the consumer understandably”.
