Massive attacks with two dead
Kyiv experienced the worst night in months

During the night, Russia launches a major attack on the Ukrainian capital, Kiev. Several people are said to have been killed and injured in the massive rocket fire. The military administration speaks of the “biggest rocket and drone fire since spring”.

According to the military, at least two people were killed in a rocket attack on the Ukrainian capital Kiev in the night. “Unfortunately, according to initial information, two people died in the Shevchenkivskyi district of Kiev as a result of falling debris,” said the head of the capital’s military administration, Serhiy Popko, in the online service Telegram.

Two other people were also injured. Among the injured was a 24-year-old woman who was taken to a hospital with glass splinters, the head of the military administration in the city of three million, Serhiy Popko, also told Telegram.

According to the military administration, more than 20 missiles and drones were “destroyed by the air defense forces” during the night. Accordingly, it is the “biggest rocket and drone attack since spring”. “The enemy launched a massive combined drone and missile attack,” the administration wrote.

“Explosions in the City”

Popko had previously reported a “missile attack” to Telegram. “In the Darnyskyi district of Kiev, debris fell onto the roof of a business facility,” he said. Fires broke out in the places where the debris fell.

An AFP reporter observed at least three explosions, which were heard around 5:00 a.m. local time (04:00 CEST) in the Ukrainian capital. The mayor of Kiev, Vitali Klitschko, also reported “explosions in the city”.

The wave of cruise missiles from the Caspian Sea area was preceded by a drone attack from the north. Air alerts had been raised across the country. There were also reports of missiles approaching in the southern Ukrainian region of Odessa. Ukraine has been repelling a Russian invasion for over 18 months. Ukraine’s anti-aircraft defenses have been modernized with Western help.
