  • “Masters of the Air” is a new war series from Apple TV+.
  • Produced by Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks, the series is an indirect sequel to “Band of Brothers” and “The Pacific”.
  • The first trailer shows the horrors of war, but also camaraderie and beauty.

Hollywood star Tom Hanks not only loves typewriters, but also stories about the Second World War. He shares this interest with director Steven Spielberg and so they both fulfilled their heart’s desire with “Saving Private Ryan”. But that’s not all, three years after the Oscar-winning film, Spielberg and Hanks teamed up again to shed more light on the lives of US soldiers.

In 2001, the series “Band of Brothers” appeared on the pay-TV channel HBO and focused on the paratroopers of Easy Company in 10 episodes. Another war series followed in 2010, “The Pacific,” this time about the role of the Navy in World War II. But there are other facets of the war that Hanks and Spielberg want to shed more light on, and in 2024 they will have the chance to do so.

The war from a new perspective

“Masters of the Air” will be released on Apple TV+ on January 26, 2024. Based on the book of the same name by Donald L. Miller, the series tells the story of the men of the 100th Bomb Group, a bomber unit that experienced the war from a unique perspective. The cast includes:

  • Austin Butler
  • Callum Turner
  • Anthony Boyle
  • Nate Mann
  • Rafferty Law
  • Barry Keoghan
  • Josiah Cross
  • Branden Cook
  • Ncuti Gatwa

It is not yet known whether Tom Hanks will be involved again as narrator or director, but fans of “Band of Brothers” definitely have a reason to look forward to the new year. In any case, the first trailer promises an exciting, dramatic and excellently acted series.

By the way: “Masters of the Air” will probably only be shown permanently on Apple TV+ worldwide, but “Band of Brothers” and “The Pacific” have now finally landed on Netflix, so you no longer necessarily need a subscription to Sky or Wow!
