Matthew McConaughey: He criticizes the politicization of Corona

In an interview with US immunologist Anthony Fauci, actor Matthew McConaughey criticized the politicization of Covid-19.

Matthew McConaughey (50, "Interstellar") is again using his fame and Instagram reach to raise awareness about the coronavirus and its risks. In a 40-minute clip, he clarified with Dr. Anthony Fauci (79), head of the US health institute NIAID and member of the Coronavirus task force at the White House, answers frequently asked questions about the virus. Fauci spoke out against herd immunity, for example, because the risks of a previous illness had to be taken into account. "If everyone got the virus, a lot of people would die," he said. In addition, McConaughey provided his own assessment of the situation in the USA during the conversation.

"Like many people, I was more than disillusioned – actually pretty angry – about how Covid was politicized," said McConaughey. People searched for identity and purpose in a time of uncertainty – "so many of them have been let down by our government," said the actor. At the same time, many people have clung to the views of the left and right fringes, which is why society has become even more divided.

Fauci then encouraged McConaughey that the nation had shown itself again as a unity even after World War II and September 11th. "We have to pull ourselves together now," said Fauci. "We can celebrate our freedom and our party later. Now we have to pull ourselves together," McConaughey agreed.
