Matthew McConaughey: Is He Going To Politics Or Stand Up Comedy?

Is Matthew McConaughey turning his back on Hollywood? In any case, the Oscar winner does not rule out a career outside of acting.

Matthew McConaughey (51, "Dallas Buyers Club") recently made it onto the "New York Times Best Seller" list with his first work as an author, his biography "Greenlights". The Oscar winner does not seem to be averse to other activities apart from the camera.

Matthew McConaughey as Texas Governor?

The native Texan does not categorically rule out a future in politics. On "The Hugh Hewitt Show," McConaughey replied to the question of whether he could imagine holding political office one day: "I don't know. I mean, it's not me. It would depend more on the people than on it me." For him, politics in the USA are "currently a broken business". But he admitted that he might be “a hell of a lot more” interested in “if politics redefines its purpose”.

So maybe the Oscar winner will one day become governor of Texas? In any case, Matthew McConaughey wouldn't be the first actor to make it into politics. Ronald Reagan (1911-2004) was even the 40th President of the United States. The "Terminator" Arnold Schwarzenegger (73) was governor of California, while Hollywood legend Clint Eastwood (90) was mayor of the small Californian town of Carmel-by-the-Sea. "Sex and the City" star Cynthia Nixon (54) wanted to become governor of the state of New York in 2018, but failed in the primary.

From actor to stand-up comedian?

In addition to politics, the actor is particularly interested in stand-up comedy. On the show "The Russell Howard Hour," the 51-year-old said, according to British media reports, that prior to the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, he planned to go on tour with a one-hour story-telling program. Because for him, stand-up comedy is communication without filters. As an actor, McConaughey says, his performance goes through several filters before it reaches the audience.

He had someone else's script as a template, took instructions from a director, was filmed in a certain way by a cameraman and the whole thing was finally edited by a fourth person. As a stand-up comedian, it's different. Matthew McConaughey is known to have some funny stories to tell.
