Fraud alert! This Monday, February 26, the Matthew Perry Foundation warned the actor’s fans that the latter’s X page (formerly Twitter) appeared to have been hacked. Malicious individuals posed as the foundation itself, encouraging Internet users to make donations via a corrupted link. It was on Instagram that the organization alerted the public, revealing: “We have received information indicating that Matthew’s official X-page has been hacked and redirects users to a scam site asking for donations via cryptocurrencies.”
She adds : “Please do not make donations on this site and do not share fraudulent messages on social media. MatthewPerryFoundation.org is the foundation’s only official websiteand we only accept donations through this site.” According to our British colleagues at Sky News, the hacked link was pinned on Matthew Perry’s profilevisible in the “bio” of his X account and had also been shared via tweet. They also reveal that Internet users themselves reported the account and link as fraudulent. This Tuesday, February 27, the link and the associated post had disappeared from the profile of the actor of Friends.
A foundation created in his memory
On November 3, 2023, less than a week after the death of Matthew Perry, the foundation on which he had been actively working for several months has officially been launched. Its goal ? Helping people suffering from addictions and particularly addiction to drugs and alcohol. According to information from TF1 Info, it was sponsored by the National Philanthropic Trust charity and represents the ultimate fight of the interpreter of Chandler Bingwho battled his own demons for over thirty years. “When I die, I don’t want ‘Friends’ to be the first thing people mention.
