The death of “Friends” actor Matthew Perry has shocked his fans worldwide – and increased interest in his memoirs.

Sales of Matthew Perry’s (1969-2023) book about his addiction have doubled in the months since his death. That reported the US portal “People”. His memoir “Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing” has sold a total of 2.5 million copies.

He wanted to use his autobiography to help other sufferers

The “Friends” star reported on his struggles with drugs and alcohol in the book, which was published in 2022. “I was pretty sure it would help people,” he told People at the time. After his untimely death at the end of October 2023 at the age of 54, his book now reaches more readers than ever. Even before the book was published, he revealed decades of drug abuse in interviews, as a result of which he almost died at the age of 49. At that time, his colon ruptured after excessive opioid consumption.

Before his death, the actor had planned to set up a foundation to support people who also suffer from addiction. Perry’s relatives then turned this dream into reality. The Matthew Perry Foundation was founded on November 3rd to “identify addiction as a disease, address the complex of stigmas that prevent people from seeking and accessing health care, and advocate vigorously for better and more equitable treatment.”

Dead in the hot tub

Matthew Perry played Chandler Bing in the cult television series “Friends” from 1994 to 2004. On October 28, 2023, he was found lifeless in the hot tub of his Los Angeles home. Perry died from the effects of ketamine related to heart disease, according to the official autopsy report. It is assumed that it was an accident: he probably lost consciousness and drowned as a result. Perry was buried at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in the Hollywood Hills.
