Matthias Schweighöfer: Another "Army of the Dead" project for Netflix

Matthias Schweighöfer is expanding the collaboration with Netflix. After his role in the "Army of the Dead" film, he is now responsible for a prequel.

Action and zombie fans are already waiting for the Netflix movie "Army of the Dead". Even before the zombie horror penned by screenwriter and director Zack Snyder (54, "Justice League") celebrates its premiere, it will already have a cinematic history and an anime series, the streaming service announced. Matthias Schweighöfer (39, "The Nanny") will work as a producer and director on the prehistory of the Netflix film. The film prequel follows his "Army of the Dead" character Ludwig Dieter.

Schweighöfer is delighted: "It was great fun to be part of this wonderful ensemble around Zack Synder. I am very happy that 'Army of the Dead' is now being further developed on many different levels." The multilingual prequel is filmed in Germany and, in addition to Schweighöfer, is produced by Deborah Snyder (57), Zack Snyder and Wesley Coller as well as Dan Maag (45).

Zombie epidemic in Las Vegas

"Army of the Dead" will be released on Netflix in 2021 and follows a group of mercenaries who ventured into the quarantine zone in a Las Vegas after a zombie epidemic in order to carry out the biggest robbery of all time.

The anime series "Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas" is based on the zombie film. It tells the genesis of Scott Ward (Dave Bautista, 51) and his rescue team during the first Las Vegas collapse. In addition to Bautista, Ana de la Reguera, Tig Notaro, Omari Hardwick and Ella Purnell will resume their roles in the series. There is currently no start date for the prequel and the anime series.
