Max Schautzer lost his wife Gundel last December. Six months later, the moderator tries to find his way back to life.

On Boxing Day 2021, TV legend Max Schautzer (81) lost his beloved wife Gundel (1945-2021). On his website he announced at the time that the interior designer had died “after a short, serious illness”. About half a year later, the former moderator of “Bankruptcies, bad luck and breakdowns” again visits public events and also talks about the love for his deceased wife.

“It’s still very difficult to switch off”

In Kitzbühel, Schautzer took part in the “Eagles” charity golf tournament and helped collect a total of 130,000 euros for the charitable purpose. “It’s still very difficult to switch off. I miss Gundel by my side. I’ve changed my life. I meet up with friends, including the ‘Eagles’. That’s where I’m in good hands and I feel most comfortable,” said the 81st -year-olds the “Bild” newspaper on the fringes of the tournament.

But everything would still remind him of his Gundel. “If, like us, you’ve been together almost every day in 53 years of marriage and suddenly half of your heart is ripped away, then you feel very lonely,” he explained. He would still set the breakfast table for two people. Even in his dreams he would still meet his wife.

Max Schautzer and Gundel Schautzer, née Lauffer, had been married since 1968.
