“After a short, serious illness”, the wife of TV presenter Max Schautzer, Gundel, passed away on Christmas Day.

Max Schautzer (81) mourns his late wife Gundel after 53 years together. On his website reports the “bankruptcies, bad luck and breakdowns” moderator that Gundel died on Boxing Day “after a short, serious illness”. “We were happy until the last day,” writes Schautzer. He had been married to Gundel Schautzer since 1968.

Due to the quarantine, he was not allowed to visit his wife on the ward. He was only able to say goodbye in the intensive care unit: “But by then her soul had already left her.”

Sweet memories

She was the prettiest girl in Cologne, enthuses Schautzer about his Gundel. She was also in no way inferior to her husband: “Gundel was never a woman who had to bask in the shadow of her husband’s success. On the contrary, she cast shadows herself and shone as the sun.” The reputation of the interior designer in the industry was excellent, according to Schautzer.

He would like to be the “Prince Consort” at her side and would have been happy about the recognition of her artistic work. She was the great love of his life, continued Schautzer. “Now I miss your hearty laugh, your humor, your accurate taste.” He already misses all of that painfully – “But above all yours, our love.”
