Mazda’s first plug-in hybrid vehicle on the European SUV market, the CX-60 is distinguished by its powertrain delivering 327 hp and an all-electric range announced for 63 km.

With the new CX-60, Mazda is moving upmarket and placing Audi and BMW in its sights. To compete with German premium vehicles, the CX-60 has lengthened and is larger than the CX-5 SUV (4.75 m long, 1.89 m high and 1.68 m wide). It also presents an evolution of the Kodo stylistic language which focuses on the simplicity of the lines and the purity.

The front is characterized by a large winged grille that merges into the headlights with thin strips of LED lights in which the indicators are integrated. The front bumper inspires a certain dynamism which continues on the sculpted sides. The wide arches incorporate wheels ranging from 18 to 20 inches and the rear is distinguished by LED lights. A thin, swooping spoiler softens the roofline with chrome tailpipes meant to underline the CX-60’s dynamism. Indeed, with 327 hp of cumulative power, this plug-in hybrid SUV is the most powerful production vehicle in Mazda’s history.

Under the hood, we identify a powertrain combining the 2.5L Skyactiv-G engine, a four-cylinder gasoline unit with direct injection, a 100 kW electric motor, a new eight-speed automatic transmission and a 355 V and 17.8 battery. kWh. This powertrain will deliver a combined power of 327 hp for a torque of 500 Nm, thus making it possible to reduce the 0 to 100 km/h in 5.8 s. With a ground clearance of 17cm and torque that can be sent to permanent all-wheel drive via a Mazda-built eight-speed automatic gearbox, the CX-60 boasts off-road capability. Mazda also claims an all-electric range of 63 km at a speed of 100 km/h or less.

The arrangement under the rear seats of the battery allows the CX-60 PHEV to maintain an honorable boot volume of 570 l to 1726 l. The occupants will also be able to enjoy a welcoming space on board thanks to a wheelbase of 2.87 m, but also a finish and equipment that are intended to be top of the range. The new Mazda CX-60 PHEV benefits from i-Activsense safety and driving assistance technologies which ensure active safety and 5 stars in Euro NCAP crash tests.

The manufacturer is also highlighting its new active safety systems: See-Through View (a 360° camera that improves visibility when driving at low speeds), a collision avoidance system at intersections, intelligent braking assistance (rear ) with pedestrian detection, lane keeping system, adaptive cruise control (i-ACC), blind spot monitoring system (BSM) with vehicle exit alert. A driver profile personalization system also makes it possible to adjust the seat, steering wheel, mirrors, air conditioning and audio automatically by recognizing the driver. On the other hand, touch screen and security do not mix well at Mazda. The 12.3-inch infotainment interface is primarily controlled using a wheel and the touchscreen is only available when stationary. An instrument screen, still 12.3 inches, and the head-up display are available as options.

The highest finish, called Takumi, is inspired by the know-how of Japanese craftsmen with a fabric canvas on the dashboard enhanced with a metal bead. The storm doors are dressed in maple veneers with visible grain and the seats are adorned with leather.

In total, Mazda plans to market five electrified models based on its multi-solution architecture in the next three years. After 2025, the manufacturer will launch its new platform for electric vehicles Skyactiv EV, which will allow it to produce electric vehicles of any size using a single architecture.

In France, the new Mazda CX-60 will be marketed in September 2022 in four finishes: Prime-Line, Exclusive-Line, Homura and Takumi, whose prices will range between €52,000 and €70,000.
