The Martian epic ofIngenuity is far from over! The small helicopter landed on the surface of the red planet broke a new record. And he even bragged about it on video!
Arriving on Mars more than a year ago with the Perseverance rover, Ingenuity completed its 25e flight. Suffice to say that he has gained experience since his first try. Now, the machine is able to cover ever greater distances by reaching quite remarkable speeds given the flight conditions. NASA recently uploaded a few seconds clip for us to visualize the feats achieved during the mission.
Almost ready for the marathon
The American space agency explained that Ingenuity had reached an average speed of 19 km/h for a distance covered of approximately 700 meters. The exercise held on April 8, 2022 was immortalized (see below) in black and white. You can observe the Martian soil strewn with pebbles and sand.
NASA technicians are already preparing Ingenuity for its 29e flight to Mars. In addition, the drone recently experienced a small failure by missing a communication window with Perseverance. Martian dust obstructing the solar panels of the device could be the cause of this slight malfunction.
