The semiconductor market may well be highly competitive, but MediaTek has obviously been able to do well since the beginning of the year thanks to its Dimensity 8000 and 9000 series. The latest financial results prove it.
Despite the industry-wide semiconductor crisis, MediaTek executives have reason to keep smiling. Indeed, the Taiwanese chip designer saw its turnover increase by around 33% in the first five months compared to the same period of the previous year. Unsurprisingly, the company has already announced that it will have no problem meeting the targets it has set for itself in the second quarter.
A success in particular due to the enthusiasm caused by its SoC Dimensity 8000/9000, which have been widely adopted by Chinese giants such as Oppo, Vivo or Xiaomi. Indeed, while some models of these brands are equipped with Qualcomm chips in Europe, some of these brands have chosen an equivalent from MediaTek for their domestic market. Excellent news for the firm, which has proven that it was perfectly capable of offering a counterweight to the American Qualcomm, or even to Samsung, in segments where it was once more difficult to compete.
A strategic 8000 series
It must be said that in addition to offering good levels of raw power, these SoCs also offer complete connectivity. The 8000 series, intended for the mid-range, are for example compatible with wifi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2, and have a 5G modem (millimetre waves) promising speeds of up to 4.7 Gb / s. In addition, Mali graphics chips deliver quite suitable services in video games. We can therefore expect to see this type of reference multiply on future smartphones, even in France.
However, this positive trend could run out of steam during the month of June. Faced with rampant inflation, manufacturers could reduce their number of orders, slow down the supply chain and try to adjust the price of smartphones already on the market.
